Mission At Our Saviour
There's more than meets the eye.

Ethiopia Map Image In late February 2011, COOS sent out a Mission Team to Ethiopia. The twelve member team was made up of: Rev Mike Clarkson, Patti & Jimmy Addison, Dennis Hampton, Nena & Scott Jackson, Ann & Brad Munday, Nancy Eason (Ann's sister), Julia & Dave Ralston (co-Captains), Mary Whyte. It was a wonderful faith-filled trip that brought us back more motivated to use our lives to make a difference both locally and overseas.

Looking into the future, we plan to have our Mission Teams co-ordinate with Joan Bullock and Julie Koenig to serve local mission opportunities where our teams could make a difference. We would also like to have some regional or national effort in the same vein as the team which helped with Operation Christmas Child in Charlotte last December.

We plan that our next global trip will be back to our "Focus Country" of Ethiopia in October of 2012. This may seem like a long time in the future; but we have done so many trips in the last eighteen months that this will give us a chance to catch our breath. Please step out of your comfort zone and join us on our next adventure. Below are some of our goals and points of interest for Mission in the future.

1) The Mission Team has decided to make Ethiopia our first "Focus Country." What this means is that we are going to put a stake in the ground and plan to have a continuing presence in the country.

2) Here are the top five areas where the team members said they would like to have an immediate role.

WE ARE PROUD TO SAY THAT THE FUNDS NEEDED FOR THESE PROJECTS HAVE BEEN PROVIDED 100% BY THE MISSION TEAM ITSELF. THANKS BE TO GOD!!!

A total of $25,000 has been raised and will be used as follows:

Ethiopia Langano Farms Image

The Deborah House: Rescue house ministry in Addis Ababa to get young girls off the street. We have spoken with Jonannes, the gentleman who runs the project, and he said he would welcome a visit from a team to work with the girls to upgrade the appearance and livability of the home. They do not own the building so he cautioned against putting too much into the infrastructure. He would appreciate assistance in painting and refurbishing the linens and kitchen items and perhaps some help with operating expenses for the program. The annual budget for running the facility is approximately $25,000. We plan to give $2,500 for operations and up to $2,500 for refurbishing expenses for a total gift of $5,000.

The Langano Farms: Farming ministry that provides jobs and food for the people surrounding the Camp at Langano. We propose a one time grant of $5,000 to be spent towards a $13,000 project to build a water tower, pump and well that can provide drip irrigation for the planting at the farm. Currently all irrigation is provided by a spring that has to be hand directed through the use of water canals.

Ethiopia Flag Image Sports Friends Mentoring and Discipleship Program in the Langano Camp community. As Shane shared with us, we have a thousand people evangelizing but very little if any continuing discipleship with the new believers after they accept Christ. We propose a one time gift to Sports Friends through SIM that would provide partial funding for this very important need in helping to develop more mature Christians in the area. It is our hope and prayer that Kawetti and some of his workers at the farm can participate in this program. Total gift $5,000.

Water is Life Well Ministry for a single well to be built at the farm so that water can be provided for the customers and possibly be tied into the water tower project. The quoted amount of a well to be built is $6,000 and we would work with Joe to see if this could be reduced. This would provide support of the Water is Life ministry that Ben and Kelly work with and provide more support for the farm.

Church of Our Saviour Mission Scholarship program. The finances of our trip generated a surplus of about $4,000. We propose that these funds be used towards providing financial assistance for people in the church for future mission trips approved by the Mission Team. In addition, we would like to contribute another $4,000 towards this fund that would build the fund to approximately $8.000. Through this fund, Our Saviour could provide up to 50% of the cost of going on a mission for someone who wants to go but is unable to afford the full cost of the trip. The prospective member would then raise the other 50%.

In Summary:
Deborah House: $5,000
Langano Farms: $5,000
Sports Friends: $5,000
Water is Life: $6,000
Missions Scholarship: $4,000
Total: $25,000
